Must See Film = Adrien Brody in Detachment

A substitute teacher (the beautiful but please don’t do any more modeling Adrien Brody) takes up residence somewhere in NYC ( me thinks). It has Marcia Gay Harden in it, ‘nought said, super actress – has she ever been in a dud movie? Also has an array of other superduper actors like Blythe Danner, Lucy Liu, James Caan and the interesting new kid on the block Sami Gayle (she of Blue Bloods pictured). A super script and subtlety directed.

I can say I will watch this movie again = a must see movie. Directed by Tony Kaye, script by Carl Lund.

Zerophilia – interesting movie, very original, Martin Curland’s debut from way back in 2005. Has a neat hook on “Whom do you love?” with a very 80s feel to it. Wonder why no follow up movie from Martin. Prob a sign of the times + the difficulties with generating income from movies? Still, why more diverse films like this (and pretty all my films blogged about) are not screened on tv, even a la Showtime is ? I can’t really talk - what with not having a tv!

Must See Film/ Best Gay Movies = Albert Nobbs☂

Albert Nobbs is a very Dublin-centric movie, co-written by future Nobel Literary prize holder, John Banville and starring and co-written by Glenn Close and has an amazing cast.
Brillant movie, and I only categorise it as gay for search engine indexing as much as anything else. Being as I am and not into classification. You have got to admire Glenn Close and what she has achieved with Albert Nobbs, her pet project for a number of years. She pulls it off in spades.
Like August which I recently reviewed, both are simple stories well told (and some folk will not like either for the one old fashioned reason).

My favorite part of the movie, all of it, but when Albert and friend don frocks, really was a great piece. Luv’d Mia Wasikowska in it, Aaron Johnson’s character is really well developed, Pauline Collins is good, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers does a cameo piece and lends his support to the project, and Brendan Gleeson turns in a naturally good performance (, has he ever being in a bad movie? Hmm, just though of Mission Impossible. lol) Janet McTeer is a revelation. Basically, GO SEE!

Must See Movies/ Best Gay Films = August

I think August marks the coming of age of cinema that is good, and gay. There is another that blew me away recently too. Will blog about the other soon.

I kinda like the movies I recommend to have non descript promo videos.. I guess I like folks to be surprised. So it’s a catch 22. Needless to say not all my recommendations delight folks, but hey!

August was a big surprise. Luv it. There’s nothing I can fault the film, wonderful actors, brilliant subtle script (gawd it’s good to watch a movie with a great script and a director that works magic), beautiful cinematography, and a simple, stunning sound score. It should be seen. First thing I did was look up Surque and the other music providers in it. An accomplished film from director Eldar Rapport.

It’s a reminder of how much I luv the indie L.A scene, though this is a very polished looking movie and the only thing indie about is that it hasn’t a full release say like Mission Impossible!

Two of the leading actors in August, Murray Bartlett and Adrian Gonzalez, have being in major soaps in the USA – All My Children and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Am looking forward to winter! I like the cold weather lol. It also means I get to dress up, winter cloths are way cooler (!) than summers gear. For instance I have a authentically made Keffiyeh (scarf below), if you’re ever held a real Keffiyeh scarf then you know they are kinda big, and for me too big for anything but winter, So roll on the snow, so I can wear my trendy overcoats and my brand new made at the only factory in Gaza scarf! If you’re in Dublin and see a long red haired guy sliding around on snow wearing the aforementioned say hi!
A forewarning; more cool cloths posts coming up over the season ahead!

Some retro + The best film I have seen in a very long time.

I’m with Bruce LeBruce with film classification. This isn’t a gay movie. But for search engine optimization I have given it one such category. For me, films et tous les things I dig, includying this film are post-gay. lol.

This isn’t the most astounding pic or video clip, but if you watch the movie, and you should then I don’t want to give the story away.

Best Gay Films + Weekend Movie = Echte Kerle

A bit of retro;
This is the most popular post, movie-wise on aindreas… There’s two other movie posts close by.. The one on Matthew Montgomery being another.
But I guess I was originally surprised, pleasantly that this was numbero uno, consistently. It’s a sweet ole fashioned 80′s style caper with a slant. And a fav of mine to watch agin agus agin.

Echte Kerle = Regular Guys. A German comedy from the 90′s not the 80′s that’s really not much of a comedy laugh out loud thing. A straight guy somehow ends up living with a gay guy + well all sorts ensue. It’s a good humoured movie, mostly keeps away from stereotypes and deals with it as much in a so what manner/ they’re friends + get over it as anything else. I know this as it is the second time I’ve seen it. German with English subs. It’s one of many German/ European films that just isn’t well known + is never seen on the best gay movie lists. I must do a list. Christoph M. Ohrt shins as Christoph + Tim Bergmann as Edgar.

Must See Film/ Best Gay Films = Victor and Alexandre Carril ♥ Donne-Moi La Main

Victor and Alexandre Carril in Donne-Moi La Main. Excellent French movie (2008) about two brothers that thumb across France for the burial of their father in Spain. Alexandre and Victor make the movie. ♥♥♥♥

Slightly so sugar coated. But sugar coated is good at times.

I originally saw Olivier Ducastel’s 2008 movie at the now 1st incarnation of the rebourne Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin in 2009, not a gay film as such, but ’twas promoted as such in some countries. ‘Tis one of those multi generational French films, reminds me alot of a great Italian film I must blog.
